Arnie Arnie Arnie

Arnie was my first terrier. I intended to do dog sports with him - we were getting prepared for competing in dog agility and also did search and rescue dog training. Arnie was my second dog, I already knew what to do and tried to bring him up as good as I could. He grew into a fantastic dog, who could run everywhere off leash. When he run at the park and then sat at the end of the pavement, waiting for me to tell him "go" to cross the road, people were usually stunned. He wouldn't cross the road even if there was a cat running. He liked to fight other dogs, but it was never an issue as a simple "heel" command was enough to make him stick to me and do no fuss. Unfortunately Arnie was very sickly from an early age. He was a crytorchid, had luxating patellas and was missing a lot of teeth. When he was 7 months old, he started throwing up regulary and finally tests discovered that he's suffering from inflammatory bowel disease. He was treated with cortisol and had to have a special diet. Unfortunately he reacted to anti-vomiting medication with epileptic seizures, so it was hard to get him any help. He finally died at the age of 2,5 years, from IBD and status epilepticus.

All bad things are good for something, we just don't know that when they're happening. Now I know that health is the most important and is at the first place in my breeding programme. Show results mean nothing about health. I do not wish anyone who loves their dogs what I had to get through with Arnie.

Arnie was of course never bred, nor were his siblings, and his parents also never had any more litters. I got a bitch from different, health tested lines to start my breeding programme.
